Obwohl nach drei Staffeln „Hannibal“ zunächst ein Ende der Serie verkündet wurde, sind weder Cast noch Produzent Bryan Fuller einer Fortsetzung gegenüber abgeneigt. In mehreren Interviews zeigten sich sowohl Mads Mikkelsen als auch Fuller interessiert – jedoch sei es schwierig, so der Executive Producer, einen Zeitraum zu finden, in dem alle Beteiligten verfügbar wären. Für Fans sind das aber gute Nachrichten, denn ein Hannibal-Revival ist demnach definitiv nicht ausgeschlossen.

Worum geht’s? Nach dem Gemetzel in Lecters Appartement ist zunächst unklar, wer überlebt hat und wer nicht. Lecter und seine Psychiaterin Du Maurier fliehen nach den Ereignissen nach Italien und lassen sich in Florenz nieder. Ihre schwierige Beziehung offenbart sich hier, während Lecter seinem starken Drang nach weiteren Morden nachgibt. Doch bald wird klar, dass Graham und Crawford ihnen wieder auf den Fersen sind. Zeitsprünge in alle möglichen Vergangenheiten sowie Albträume und Visionen von Graham ziehen sich durch die folgenden Erzählungen. Doch als schließlich die Zahnfee auftaucht und das Land mit Morden in Atem hält, müssen Graham und Lecter widerwillig noch einmal zusammenarbeiten.
