Children Encouraged to Take Part in Christmas Eve Service!

We are excited to announce that our first of two Christmas Eve services (which will take place during the regular worship time on Sunday December 24 at 10:30am) will feature music that involves all of our children!

Any child present that morning who would like to participate is welcome to put on a costume as an angel, shepherd, king, or barnyard animal to create a living nativity scene.  Throughout the service, the children will get to interact with the Christmas story as led by our guest musician.

For any parents of anxious little ones, you can reassure them that there will be no speaking parts, and their singing parts are incorporated with others including the congregation — so, they will not be put on the spot. We will also make the costumes available to try on ahead of time between 10-10:20am (just before worship) on Sunday December 1. We will also have the costumes available to try on during the Annual Christmas Dinner on Sunday, December 17 following worship, as well as at the rehearsal on Thursday evening December 21st.

The kids will get to be part of the processional with the choir while they sing the “Gloria refrain” part of Angels We Have Heard on High. They will also have the chance to sing along with Away in a Manger. To that end, there will be a brief rehearsal time on Thursday evening December 21st (the Thursday before the Christmas Eve Service) with our director of music Toni Sheffer. It will run from 6-6:30pm. The kids should wear their costumes that evening, but any late comers are also welcome to select/try on costumes prior to this rehearsal in my office (formerly the Conference Room).

Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and parents, do not miss this opportunity for the children in your lives to interact with the Christmas story in a fully immersive way. They’ll get to dress up in adorable costumes, become familiar with traditional Christian Christmas carols, and participate with our talented guest musician. It will be a priceless Christmas memory for your whole family, as well as a beautiful way for you to bring up family conversations about what Christmas means to us as people of faith.

Please contact Alicia Taylor-Byers, director of Christian Education and Outreach, with any questions or concerns. Please, do not hesitate to ask if you need any special accommodations for children in your family to participate. We want to be as inclusive as possible.

If you have any questions, please contact our new Director of Christian Education and Outreach, Alicia Taylor-Byers at aliciataylorbyers@gmail.com OR 859-609-0814.
