Kudos to the Adult Sunday School Class

We want to offer a big thank you to the adult Sunday school class, who through their donations, purchased  2 lovely cobalt blue flower pots for the prayer garden. They also paid for the pansies in the flower boxes.

Each Sunday, this class donates money, and Betty Drake keeps track of the donations. In addition to the most recent landscaping purchases, their donations have paid for:

  • socks and underwear for children of Family Promise
  • blankets for when we host Family Promise
  • Baskets for festival’s silent auction
  • a granddaughter of a local family who suffers from a rare skin disorder

The nickels and dimes do add up and continue to make a lasting difference in our community!

Join Christ Church UCC in the Hunger Walk

Christ Church has formed a team to walk in support of Washington UCC’s (WUCC) food ministries which include:

  • Lunch for our needy neighbors four days a week
  • Light meal for students in the after-school tutoring program
  • Breakfast and lunch for children in Summer Program
  • Food to families and adults from Camp Cupboard (WUCC’s free store)

The food comes from the Cincinnati Freestore Foodbank, where WUCC can get some items free and most at half the cost it would pay in a grocery store. But even “half the cost” still means money. We hope you can help Christ Church and Washington UCC feed our needy neighbors.

Every $1 we raise in Hunger Walk sponsors is $1 in credit that WUCC can spend at the FreeStore to buy food for people who depend on WUCC for help.

Here is how you can help!

  • Register for the Hunger Walk online at cincinnatihungerwalk.org as a participant or a donor. Please search for our team page, Christ Church UCC.
  • OR … Make a donation directly to Christ Church UCC for our Hunger Walk efforts on behalf of WUCC. Checks can be made payable to Christ Church UCC and mailed to the church address (15 S. Ft. Thomas Ave, Ft Thomas, KY 41075). Please mark “HUNGER WALK” on the check. This is a tax-deductible donation.

Please join our team!!

Church to host Family Promise guests; seeking items for older children

We will be hosting Family Promise April 9-April 14

There is a need for children’s games, DVD’s and money donations.

We would like to provide activities for older children staying with us who are in the 8-14 age range.

We are asking for an easy transportable television and DVD player, gently used board games, electronic games, DVDs and/or monetary donations to purchase items.

Please bring any items to the church office; checks (marked FP in the memo line) may also be dropped off at the office or placed in the mission team’s mailbox.

Thank you for your support of this ministry.  We make a difference in these family’s lives!

Additionally, we ask that volunteers please sign up in areas where you are able to help in the Family Promise mission.

We would like to start a new tradition of celebrating the birth of our church babies by collecting disposable diapers (all sizes) and donating them to the expecting families.

Please drop off your donations in the barrel in the Narthex and keep these families in your prayers!

2016 Church Festival Recap

2016-fall-festival

Through lightning, thunder, high winds, and beating rain, the 2016 Fall Festival still made a profit of $7,650.62!

We would like to thank all the volunteers who contributed their time and energy to both festival nights.

We would like to extend special appreciation to Bob Faulkner, who has chaired the event all four years; to Bert Bathiany and Barry Petracco, who along with Bob gave countless hours organizing, hauling, setting up and constructing; to Brian Laake, who kept track of all the financial information; and to Sherri Spaulding, who took care of all the licensing and state forms.

It has been decided by council NOT to have an outdoor festival since we have not had any luck with the weather and very difficult to find volunteers. A committee will be set up to look at different fund raising events that can be held indoors.

The Busam Buddies Need Some Help

Help Keep This Ministry Alive!

There and many steps involved in making our blankets which do not require stitching, and “we’ll get by with a little help from our friends.”

If you are willing to do some pressing fabric, and/or helping with the tracing and cutting of hands, please let Nancy Witte [441-7478] or Bonnie Hitch [441-4423] know.

If you still have blankets that need to be stitched, we would appreciate hearing from you as to whether or not you are still able to do them.

We really do want to keep this ministry alive if we can because we know it is appreciated by the blanket recipients. And don’t we all love seeing babies wrapped in the white blankets?? We can keep doing it with a bit more help.

Need to Know: Clarifying The New Pledging Process

church-logo-2

We seem to have some confusion about what the intentions are with the changes we are making to the pledge process.  With elimination of the direct pledging to OCWM and our local charities we have no intention of eliminating our giving to either one.  Our goal is to coordinate the giving better and ensure what we give supports the valued charities we want to support.

With this change we will introduce a tithe for the Church, and if we tithe with 10%, we will give more to charities in 2017 than we did with our directed giving to OCWM and Local Charities in 2016.  Some of the tithe will come from our church budget and some of it will come from the Endowment Fund.  We will continue to abide by all the rules of where earned income from our Endowment Fund can be used.  By utilizing some of the earned income from Endowment for our charities it will allow us to utilize more of our giving to support the Church Mission.

Most importantly consolidating our giving into one budget will allow us to give more financially with outside ministries (like Washington UCC) and non-profits (like Hosea House) that we deeply care about are already invested in. Please reach out to Pastor Ryan or members of Finance or the Council if you have any questions.
