Attention Cincinnati Reds Fans! Our next Lunch & Learn will be right up your alley.

Our guest presenter for the July Lunch and Learn will be Mr. Greg Rhodes, Team Historian for the Cincinnati Reds.

He was the former manager for the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum, and he has written seven books on the Reds history.

Two of his books won national baseball book awards.

Rhodes grew up in Richmond, Indiana listening to the Reds on radio and learning about the Reds from announcer Waite Hoyt.

This will be the second time Rhodes has honored us with a presentation. Join us on July 25 as Greg tells us about

“REDS BASEBALL FROM THE 1950’S THRU 1960’s”

January Lunch & Learn: Ohio River Floods

Our next Lunch & Learn will focus on the body of water that has shaped the Tri-State region. The Ohio River is responsible for the growth of industry and the populations that settled along its banks. Join us on Tuesday, January 24 and learn about the “Ohio River Floods” presented by Mr. Dave Traut, docent from the Cincinnati Museum Center.

January, 2017 marks the 80th anniversary of the historic 1937 flood that so severely impacted the Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati area. Traut’s presentation will focus on the ’37 flood along with other major floods on the Ohio River.

November Lunch & Learn: Greater Cincinnati’s Veterans Memorials

During November our country has the privilege of celebrating Veterans Day.

In honor of this day, the Nov. 22 Lunch & Learn will feature Blanche Sullivan from the Cincinnati Museum Center. Sullivan’s presentation will be “Greater Cincinnati’s Veterans Memorials.”

Sullivan’s presentation will describe the many memorials and tributes to military personnel from the greater Cincinnati area, and will include a brief history of each memorial.

The featured time span will cover two centuries, from the Revolutionary War to the Gulf Wars.

Yellowstone National Park is Focus of Oct. Lunch & Learn

2016 is the 100 year anniversary of our National Park system. Our featured speaker for our October 25 Lunch & Learn will be local author Erin Peabody.

Peabody’s book titled “A WEIRD AND WILD BEAUTY The Story of Yellowstone, America’s First National Park,” tells us about the first scientific expedition into Yellowstone.

Peabody has worked and volunteered at several of America’s National Parks and will share with us her knowledge of America’s treasured park system.

The event will begin with lunch at 11:30 am followed by the presentation at noon.

Lunch & Learn to Shed Light on Tri-State Banking History

Ever wonder how Fifth Third Bank got its name? What was the largest denomination printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing? What is currency made of?

On Tuesday, August 23, we will have a chance to learn the answers to these questions from Mr. John Reusing, former chairman of Fidelity Financial of Ohio and president of Centennial Bank.

After a distinguished career in banking, Reusing served as the Director of Development of the Cincinnati and Hamilton County Library.

His presentation, ON THE BANKS OF THE OHIO” will give us some history on banks in the Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati area.  Reservations are required for Lunch! Lunch begins at 11:30 AM followed by the presentation at noon. Lunch and Learns to Focus on Archaeology, Banks and Currency

Remember when Steven Spielberg introduced us to his most famous archaeologist, Indiana Jones? We certainly enjoyed the antics of this fictional character as he searched amid tombs, caves and other exotic locations for clues left behind about the lives of ancient civilizations.

On Tuesday, July 26, we will have a chance to learn about the real scientific study of archaeology from Dr. Sharyn Jones, chair of the NKU department of anthropology, sociology and philosophy. She will give us a presentation on archaeology in general and share with us some of the research she did this summer in Fiji.

On Tuesday, August 23 our guest presenter will be Mr. John Reusing.

Reusing has served as director of development for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. In addition, he had a distinguished career in banking as the past president and chairman of the board at Fidelity Financial of Ohio, and president and CEO of Fidelity Federal Savings Bank.

His presentation titled “On The Banks Of The Ohio” will focus on the history of local banks in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area along with the history of currency.

Both events will begin with lunch at 11:30 a.m. with the presentation to follow at noon.
