Family Promise Returns to Christ Church, Volunteers In Demand

Family Promise (formerly Interfaith Hospitality Network) has reopened and will be staying at Christ Church beginning August 21 through August 28.

Family Promise

Family Promise is a non-profit cooperative endeavor between the religious community, volunteers and social service agencies, committed to providing cost-effective living and comprehensive services for homeless children and their families during temporary homelessness, enabling them to regain their independence.

The NKY chapter closed in May of 2014, but is reopened in July of 2016.

Christ Church will again be a host church. The church will provide meals and a place to stay for families for an entire week several times a year.

Our first week as host will begin on Aug. 21.

Many volunteers are needed to serve the families. Positions include: people to prepare and serve dinner, people to host for a few hours each night, people to stay overnight (hosts sleep in a classroom upstairs while the guests sleep in class rooms on the lower level of the education building), people to drive the guests each morning and afternoon between the Day Center and our church, people to set up and break down the rooms where the guests stay, people to buy groceries and people to launder linens at the end of the host week.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering must attend a training session on Tuesday, August 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Volunteering does not require any special skills, but every volunteer must be trained, even if they volunteered in the past.

Anyone who is volunteering and cannot attend the training session on Aug. 9, please contact Melissa Cox at 859-291-1324 or email her at for dates and locations of other sessions.
